With WeAgile.

Client: Nesta and MCS Foundation.

Role: Web Development

Get a Heat Pump is a UK-wide online resource created to help homeowners understand, plan for, and transition to heat pumps – a more sustainable home heating solution. Commissioned by Nesta in partnership with MCS Foundation, the site supports the UK’s 2030 goal of cutting household emissions by 30%.

I was brought on by digital agency WeAgile to rebuild and enhance the website ahead of a national campaign launch. Our focus was improving accessibility, navigation and user engagement, while delivering a seamless user experience for both general users and industry professionals.

Addressing beta site challenges

The original beta site had usability issues that needed urgent attention – confusing navigation, low mobile performance and no accessibility compliance.

On top of that, the audience was split between two very different user types:

  • Homeowners, who needed clear, digestible guidance
  • Industry professionals, who required quick access to technical documentation

We needed to restructure the site, improve responsiveness and make it fully WCAG 2.2AA compliant – on a tight timeline and in sync with evolving campaign content.

GAHP quiz page - which type of heat pump should I get?

A central feature of the site is a quiz that guides users to the most suitable heat pump based on their home setup.

The interactive quiz

A central feature was a logic-based quiz that guides users to the most suitable heat pump based on their home setup. Each user’s input would generate a mix of six possible pumps, ranked across three suitability tiers – resulting in 729 potential outcome combinations.

To implement this:

  • I integrated Inputflow to manage quiz logic and ensure non-technical editors could easily update flows
  • I wrote a Python script to hit the Webflow CMS API and generate every possible outcome page
  • Each result was made shareable by email and accessible via a unique URL, so users could revisit or share their recommendations

Navigation and accessibility

Working closely with WeAgile’s creative team and Nesta’s in-house researchers, we restructured the site architecture to support dual-user flows.

Accessibility being a core value of the project, I ensured full WCAG 2.2AA compliance, testing for screen readers, colour contrast, and keyboard navigation.

Outcome

The project was delivered on schedule for the national campaign launch. The new site is faster, clearer, and fully inclusive – providing accessible pathways for all users. The interactive quiz has become a key engagement feature, helping users make informed, confident decisions about switching to low-carbon heating.
